The Garden Route works best as a chain of good bases, not a daily hotel relay. Choose two or three towns, leave space for weather and detours, and measure the journey in experiences rather than kilometres covered.

Build your days around

A relaxed base for beaches, canoeing, forest walks and an easier pace after Cape Town.

Use one as a base for lagoons, restaurants, Robberg, beaches and day trips rather than checking in and out of both.

Give the forest and coast enough time for the suspension bridges, trails and activities instead of treating it as a roadside photograph.
